The Rescue of Peluche
Peluche came to the attention of Little Zoo Rescue when we saw a post on a local animal rescue website. A girl had found him on the street in her neighbourhood, and she had no way to help him or pay for the treatment he needed so she reached out on Facebook for help. We picked him up and arranged for a lady we knew to foster him.
He was a in a pretty bad way. He was covered in Ticks. So many, in fact, that before anything else could happen a bath was in order. He had a bald spot on his neck where the Ticks were actually eating him alive. He was malnourished and also had two Tick related diseases: Ehrlichia and Anaplasma. We began treatment and the long journey to recovery was begun.
We had tagged a fellow animal rescuer who helps with spay and neutering clinics in Mexico (SnipSisters.com), but lives in Calgary, Alberta, and she thought she might have a couple possible adoption possibilities for Peluche. Her first recommendation backed out, but the second family came through and even offered to pay all his medical bills and whatever he needed.
Normally we would not adopt a large breed like Peluche to a family with children under 5, but they had grown up with large dogs, and our associates at Snip Sisters gave them a glowing recommendation. So they were now with us on the journey to get Peluche healthy. In fact when it came time to fly him, they were so concerned about him that they flew his foster mom with him to Calgary.
Now in Calgary Peluche has a new name: Ted. Peluche’s foster mom had been calling him Teddy, as Peluche is Spanish for stuffed bear. He is now a happy snow dog, with a wonderful family.
